Speaker: Dr. Mario Motta
Title: Light Pollution & Variable Stars
Dr. Motta is a cardiologist and member of the Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston. Past president of the Massachusetts Medical Society and former president of the American Association of Variable Star Observers, he is an enthusiastic variable star observer. Dr. Motto speaks widely about the threat of light pollution. He is a recipient of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific's Las Cumbres Amateur Outreach Award. The observatory built into the foundation of his home includes a 32-inch reflecting telescope. (Sky & Telescope, May 2011, page 32-36 describe the observatory in detail.)
