Speaker: Raúl Carballo-Rubio
Researcher- Florida Space Institute
Topic: Known Knowns, Known Unknowns and Unknown Unknowns in Black Hole Physics
About the Speaker:
Raúl Carballo-Rubio, born in Spain, is a senior postdoctoral researcher at the Florida Space Institute (University of Central Florida). He studied Physics at the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Seville. He completed his PhD at the Spanish National Research Council and the University of Granada under the supervision of Profs. Carlos Barceló and Luis J. Garay, experts in classical and quantum gravity.
Since finishing his PhD in 2016, he has been a postdoctoral researcher, first at the University of Cape Town (South Africa), then at SISSA (Italy), and later at FSI. He has published more than 40 papers analyzing diverse aspects of gravity as a quantum interaction, from structural conditions that guarantee its emergence at low energies to possible observational implications for cosmology and black hole physics.
Abstract:
Our knowledge of black holes is advancing at a rapid pace like never before. The speed at which new results are communicated makes more difficult to assess their relation to the other pieces that comprise our notion of black holes, as well as their overall relevance. This talk will revise recent developments in black hole physics from this perspective, traveling from well-established grounds to unknown waters that may be full of wonders.
